Healthy Canteen

At Broderick Gillawarna School, our weekly Healthy Canteen program encourages healthy eating habits and builds important life skills for all students.

Order forms are sent home each week so families can support their child in choosing healthy snack options.

Using the Clarke Road Money Program, students take part in purchasing and enjoying a variety of nutritious snacks. Senior students take on leadership roles by preparing food items, managing sales and operating the registers, developing communication, numeracy and workplace skills in a practical setting.

To ensure every student can participate successfully, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) visuals are used throughout the process to support understanding and communication.

Our Healthy Canteen provides an inclusive and engaging way for students to learn about nutrition, teamwork and independence, supporting their overall wellbeing, confidence and readiness for life beyond school.

Mini Woolies

Our Mini Woolies program provides students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that build independence, communication and workplace skills.

As part of our Clarke Road Money Program, Mini Woolies allows students to practise real-world money handling and transaction skills in a safe, supportive environment. Modelled on a real supermarket, students take on a variety of roles such as shopping, restocking shelves, scanning items and using the register.

These experiences help develop functional numeracy, literacy and social interaction skills while promoting teamwork and responsibility. Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) visuals and other communication supports are used throughout to ensure all students can participate successfully.

Through Mini Woolies, students gain valuable confidence and skills that prepare them for community access, supported employment and independent living.
